Prof. Dr. Mesut Okumuş


Mesut Okumuş gradauted from the Faculty of Divinity of Atatürk University in Erzurum in 1988. He worked as a high school teacher for five years and then joined the Faculty of Divinity of Van Yüzüncü Yıl University as a research assistant. He completed his M.A. in Tafsir at Ankara University in 1994 and his Ph.D. in Tafsir at the same university in 2000. He moved to Çorum to teach at Gazi University Çorum Faculty of Divinity (later renamed Hitit University Faculty of Divinity). He attended language classes and made research at Liverpool Hope University in 2003. After returning to Çorum he first became an associate professor of tafsir in 2004 and then a full professor in 2009. He served in the capacities of department chair, associate dean, and university senator at Hitit University and was finally appointed as the dean of the Faculty of Divinity (2011-2014). In 2013, he was appointed to Faculty of Divinity of Ankara University. Prof. Okumuş has published several books as well as numerous articles and book chapters in national and international journals. His studies focus on the history of tafsir, methodology of tafsir, and particularly on the philosophical tafsir of Muslim intellectuals.

Prof. Dr. İhsan Çapcıoğlu


İhsan Çapcıoğlu graduated from the Faculty of Divinity of Ankara University in 2000. He joined the Faculty as a research fellow in sociology of religion in 2002. He received his M.A. in 2003, and Ph.D. in 2008 in the field of sociology of religion from the same institution. He was appointed as an assistant professor in 2010, as an associate professor in 2012, and promoted to full professor in 2018. He researched, lectured, and took part in projects in Germany, Austria, Hungary, Slovakia, Kyrgyzstan, and Kazakhstan. He has published numerous articles in both national and international, academic and popular periodicals and wrote several books and book chapters. Prof. Çapcıoğlu’s primary interests include the question of methodology in religious studies, and topics related to sociology of knowledge, culture, religion, and values.
